Jerseyman Jack Butel and English teammate Dominic Paul ended their season in the UK LMP3 Cup at Silverstone last weekend (13/14 October). The Speedworks Motorsport duo finished the opening race of the weekend with a solid fifth place before rain stopped play on the final day of the season.
After a disappointing Donington race weekend last time out, Jack Butel was hungry for another podium to end the year on a high – with hopes of moving up the championship table.
The Ligier LMP3 pairing got off to a strong start with Paul qualifying the French machine in third place. Come the race, Paul made a good start and mixed it at the front. Butel also did the same and brought the car home in fifth overall at the home of British Motorsport.
The second day sadly denied the pair of a chance to fight for another podium or their first win of the season. Despite the best efforts of the team at Silverstone, the heavy rainfall made the circuit to treacherous to race on. With the season curtailed earl,y the championship positions were declared and Jack ended his second year in the series in fourth overall.
“What a shame the weekend ended earlier than planned,” explained Butel. “Our pace was there in the car in the first race but we struggled to get the car right at the very front. We were gutted we didn’t get to race the final round of the season, but safety always comes first. Fourth in the championship is a strong result and hopefully with that we can build on it and look to carry that forward into a programme for next year.”
Jack’s winter plans and details for next season will be announced in due course.
